I didn’t get a whole lot done that evening - just disconnected the power steering plumbing, and removed and cleaned up the upper intake manifold. But there are lots of pretty pictures to look at!
Here’s the shots of the underside of the CAC I promised you last time. See what I mean about the paint?
This is what the upper intake manifold looks like from the engine side. Pretty nasty, huh? You can also see the quarter-inch or so mismatch between the one side of the upper manifold and the gasket/lower manifold. That gasket sure was fun to get off, too.
This is the lower intake manifold. Just as dirty… Check out that slick custom-painted thermostat housing, too!
Hey, what’s that?
Oh, look! A little screwdriver! It’s not mine - I wonder how long that’s been in there… This brings the "Lost Tool Count" for this project to -1, as I have yet to lose any of my own.
This is the MAT (Manifold Air Temperature) sensor that screws in to the intake next to the brake booster connection. Yuck. I wonder if I should even bother trying to clean it up, or just get a new one.
Finally, the upper manifold is off, stripped of all its fittings and gaskets. I was pleasantly surprised to discover that the rusty, ancient-looking EGR valve was still working like it’s supposed to when I removed it.
